Elevator Reverser & Walking Beam
6/30/06- The elevator
pushrod reverser mounts behind the pilot's seat at station 82.
6/30/06- Using good
old 1x2 jig blocks, I positioned the reverser using a smooth 3/8"
rod.
6/30/06- Welding the
reverser bushings in place was straightforward.
6/30/06- After
welding in the reverser, it was time to mount the elevator walking
beam.
6/30/06- The plans
say the 7/8x.058 mounts should be 1 5/8" long, but in reality they
are 4" long each.
6/30/06- I used a
heavy piece of 3/4" tubing to keep the long mounting tubes lined up
and prevent them from warping. The walking beam and reverser
rotate as smooth as silk.
Elevator
Trim
2/6/07- I designed
and cut a trim lever out of 3/16" 6061 alum. It measures
4"x13". The mount is made out of 3/8x.058 tubing and a .100
washer. Friction to hold the lever in position will be
provided by 1/8" micarta washers and an adjustment knob. I
mounted the lever on the outside of the fuse between 2 stringers so
that I wouldn't be kicking it every time I climb into the cockpit.
10/20/08- This
is how I captured the center bolt to prevent it from rotating.
While this hardware store bolt is not welded to the anti-rotation
washer, an AN 4 bolt will be.
10/20/08- A second
bushing is welded to the fuse tube for the anti-rotation bolt.
I have two 1/8 micarta washers sandwiched on either side of the trim
lever for smooth operation.
