What's New:  2/22/07- Finish welded the engine mount spools in the corners of the fuselage.

Engine Mount

2/1/07- Since I didn't have a spare IO-540 case to use as a jig, I couldn't build my own mount so I ordered one from Steen Aerolab.  Expensive, but they did a good job on it.  Notice that they didn't use a mounting ring, but all straight 4130 tubing.
2/1/07- The first thing that I did was bolt the spools onto the mount to see how they fit into the 4 corners of the fuselage.  The bottom is fine, but I have to form the tops of the 2 diagonal tubes since they interfere with the spools.
2/18/07- To form the top corners of the fuselage at station 0 to accept the 2 top engine mount spools, I made a simple forming tool out of 9/16x.063 and 5/8x.035 tubing.
2/18/07- I heated the intersection of the tubes with a torch and hammered the forming tool to create the concave bed for the upper engine mount spool.  It only took a few taps and checking the fit with the engine mount.
2/18/07-  A perfect snug fit!  Thanks to Manuel Benito for this suggestion.  It sure was cleaner, stronger, and easier than my first plan to notch and weld.
2/18/07-  Here is the mount fit on the fuselage.
2/22/07- The engine mount spools are welded in place.
2/22/07-  This is the inside corner of the engine mount spool.
