Welcome to our Steinhatchee, Florida page.

Most people have never heard of Steinhatchee and that's a good thing.  It's got a laid-back country small town atmosphere and we hope it stays that way for at least 20 years.  Did I mention that we plan to move there in the next 6 months?  Steinhatchee is located west of Gainesville on the Gulf coast.  It's a little fishing town.

Below are some pictures of Steinhatchee and our property.

Click on the images to enlarge them.

The town of Steinhatchee sits on the Steinhatchee River.  This is a view looking up the river from the bridge that connects Dixie and Taylor counties.

This is the Steinhatchee 3 miles up river where it runs behind our Ancient Oaks Airpark.

There are lots of creeks in the area.  This is Boggy Creek which runs through our airpark.  There are lots of beavers that are constantly building dams that have to be cleared.
When you turn south on route 51 from highway 19/Alt 27, go about 5 miles and you will see this sign at the entrance to Ancient Oaks.
This is the main gate going into Ancient Oaks.
The sign above the gate tells you that you are here.
Beware that you share the roads with airplanes, so watch out and be ready to back up or pull over.  Airplanes can't go backwards.
We have a 2800' grass runway in our front yard.
Looking across the runway at our property that stretches from Bobbi on the right to our red truck on the left.
Looking back through the left side of the property.  This side is not as heavily wooded as the right acre.  If you look real hard, you can see me standing at the back of the property.
We even have a boat ramp on the river in our common area.  Only suitable for canoes and kayaks though.
This is the Bridge End Cafe and our favorite place to eat.  Real good food.  It's an old cracker house.
This is the Steinhatchee River going out to the Gulf of Mexico.  Good fishing for scallops, redfish, and trout right at the mouth of the river.
4/21/06- This is what our cleared lot looks like from across the runway.  It runs the full width of the picture.  While the bulldozer cleared a lot of trees, he still left a lot in the front and back.
4/21/06- This is the driveway for our airplanes going back to the hangar which will be on the left.
4/21/06- This is the driveway for the cars going back to the house.
4/21/06- These trees are in front of the hangar giving a little buffer from the street.
4/21/06- This is part of the house backyard.  The house will be about where the bulldozer is.
5/19/06- The septic tank and drainfield is done.  That's the big mound in the back where Bobbi is hiking off to.
5/19/06- The mound is a full 6ft. tall, 55' wide and 135' long.  The Health Dept. insisted on a system this big and in Ancient Oaks it is all above ground since the groundwater is right under the surface.  We'll probably put a putting green on top.
5/19/06- Fortunately, we still have enough room for a house which will go right behind the stand of trees where the pile of black ash is.
9/20/06- Finally, the steel hangar parts have been delivered.
9/20/06- The hangar is like a big erector set.  Bolt part A to part B, etc.
9/20/06- All the parts checked out on the inventory sheet.  It took the men 4 hours to unload it from the tactor trailer using 2 front end loaders.
9/20/06- Hydroswing supplied the door.  This is it, 60 ft. wide!
9/20/06- Hughes Concrete, from Chiefland, is doing the concrete work.
9/20/06- The footers with no columns to support are only 18" deep.
9/20/06- The footers that support the columns are 36" deep and have lots of steel in them.
9/20/06- Amazingly, the Hughes crew showed up at 3:00am and set up their lights to begin the pour.
9/20/06- That's Sparky the 'Big Poppa' concrete pumping truck.
9/20/06- It took 10 concrete trucks for a total of 100 cu. yds. of concrete to do the pour.  We're finally getting some daylight by now.
9/20/06- The concrete has to firm up before the crew can start the finishing work.
9/20/06- These guys are fast.  It's 1:00pm and the power trowel is done making a slick finish and all the forms are removed.  All that's left is to cut the joints in the surface.  All the edges are straight, the bolts are set and on Sept 27, we will start putting up the columns and girders.
10/21/06- We tried to leave as many trees as possible between the road and the hangar.
10/21/06- After they poured the ramp, sidewalk and door stoops, we put down some sod and a temporary sprinkler system.
10/21/06- The door opening is 60' x 14'.  The ramp was just poured and cut the day before this picture.
10/21/06- This is one of the huge boulders that we dug up when clearing the trees.  We are going to bury it on it's long edge next to the driveway and put the house address on it.
10/21/06-  Looking through the trees from the road, the house will be about where the tractor is.

What's New

10/21/06- The steel is all up for the hangar.

9/20/06- We pour the hangar foundation.

5/19/06- We got our septic tank put in, hooray!

4/21/06- The lots got cleared.  Now we can see where the buildings go.
